Ballet is breathtaking, but its history of racism, sexual abuse and body shaming casts a shadow on its poise and grace. With the resurgence of the "balletcore" aesthetic, led by designers like Simone Rocha and MM6 Maison Margiela, "Ballet to Runway" presents a progressive take on the traditional art form. Through dynamic poses, this shoot aims to highlight the intricate beauty of ballet-inspired fashion across a diverse array of models. It also adds an avant-garde twist to impressions from the ballet classroom and famous ballet performances. The shoot even features original garments made by the stylist, who is a fiber artist.
Thank you to the Koger Center for the beautiful venue. Be sure to check out their upcoming dance performances in 2023: Columbia City Ballet's Romeo and Juliet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Columbia City Ballet and Studio 54 and USC Dance in Concert with Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company.
