It’s now the time of year when countdowns begin. For Gamecocks, it’s 18 days until classes begin in Columbia. For seniors, it’s 281 days until we walk across that stage. And for football fans, it’s only 26 days until the first kickoff in Williams-Brice Stadium.
The hot haze of summer is slowly fading away making room for new classes, apartments, school supplies and game day outfits. With the arrival of August comes lots of change. At gandbmagazine.com, change is always a good thing.
As an editorial website, we are constantly grasping for change. New ideas, new writers, new perspectives. These are the kinds of things that keep a site feeling fresh and exciting.
So this is the official call for writers. To our veteran bloggers, we love you and can’t wait to start working with you all again and reading all of the wonderful things you have to say. I would also like to extend this call out to non-journalism/English majors. The physics majors, pre-med students, dancers, artists and the, “I don’t know what to major in” students (we’ve all been there don’t worry), here us out: Gandbmagazine.com is a student interest website made by students for students so it can really only really represent the student body as a whole if we have people from every niche on campus contributing.
Everyone has something they are interested in, and it doesn’t necessarily have to do with your major. If you are really interested in international politics, chances are somebody else on our campus is too and would love to hear what you have to say about the situation in the Ukraine. If you’re interested in trying out new dieting tips, let us know which ones worked for you! If you’re a fashionista, tell us how you keep up with the latest college trends while on a student budget. College is for finding those little things you’re passionate about and gandbmagazine.com is a great platform to share those things. There’s no one kind of Gamecock, which is one of the best things about going to a state school. There are all walks of life on our campus which means the voices in our publication should reflect that.
So, current writers and future writers, gandbmagazine.com wants you. Blogging for the site is really a rewarding experience. I started last year as a blogger and, if this tells you anything, I loved it so much I came back as the web editor! For aspiring writers, this is the best way to really develop your writing and editing skills while building clips for a resume, Basically you can say you’ve been published, which is pretty cool! If you don’t really want to be a writer, that’s okay too! Writing is something that anyone can and should do! It’s a great way to really explore the things you’re interested in and share that with other people. Consider gandbmagazine.com your mountaintop.
Closer to the start of the semester we will be holding interest meetings for the magazine and for the site so keep an eye out for that by following us on all of our social media sites. In the meantime, if anyone has some extra time on their hands and a real itch to start blogging away I admire and absolutely welcome that! If you’re one of those people or if you have any questions please, please email me at gandblog@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
Looking forward to another great year at USC and a great year at gandbmagazine.com!
Sincerely,
Erin Spencer, your web editor
