This Draft is Final

I know, I know…it’s basketball season. But I just couldn’t resist talking about signing day, recruiting and…Marcus Lattimore. In short, all things important and pressing to not only us as USC students, but the entire nation as they watch us take over the SEC this year. Some of the nation’s top players are entering our football program, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Okay, maybe I’m getting a little over my head. But hey, there are some really, really good players in the mix…and I’m seriously looking forward to a better season than ever before. Maybe there are some hidden Alshon Jeffreys in the mix. Or perhaps a running back smaller and quicker footed than Kenny Miles. I’m not saying it’s a guarantee; I’m saying look out for some surprises.

For reasons unknown (or because of a Verizon mishap of some sort), my phone continually sent me updates on signing day of who was choosing who. Every ten minutes, my phone buzzed with excitement because “OL Tramell Williams is now a Gamecock! 3-Star prospect, nation’s ninth best center and No. 58 player in state of FL!” Okay…that is very exciting. Then we get Cadarious Sanders, and it continued. Seriously? I wanted to jump out of my chair.

I used to hate every player on the Byrnes High School team. I literally hated them because they always won. How can a high school team from Spartanburg be, like, number 1 in the nation? Also, they were our sort of rivals, so I didn’t like a-one of ‘em. Until now…

Gamecocks, say hello to Marcus Lattimore, a running back with a lot of run and nothing to hold him back. Sure, he is a product of Byrnes high school, but that means nothing to me now. If anything, it means everything…because we expect this boy to bring it all. He’s funny, too; Lattimore pulled a rare switch up when he pretended to be committing to Auburn, and then whipped out a Carolina hat.

So, we’ve got the humor, the size and the skill to actually play better than our competition this year. I’ll be waiting and watching to see this play out…I’m sure it will be nothing short of exciting.
