I know that this blog is usually the platform for local artists, but I had to tell you about the show that I got to experience last week in Charleston. Owl City headlined a tour with Lights and Deas Vail, and I was fortunate enough to go see what the hype Owl City is all about.
Owl City consists mainly of Adam Young, a socially awkward, yet equally adorable guy who made music in his basement when he couldn’t sleep. Before the show, I had only heard that one song over and over on the radio, and liked it as much as I liked “Party in the USA” (which was very, very little). After the show though, I couldn’t stop listening to him, and even put his CD in my car for the road trip back home.
The song “Fireflies” is nothing like the rest of the album. So, if you’re not into that song–don’t fret. I would recommend listening to the song “ The Saltwater Room” to actually see the potential that this artist has. The song is a sweet combination of synths, Adam Young’s refreshing voice and great lyrics describing the feeling of wanting to be in love with a certain person.
Despite being a sold out show, the room felt completely intimate. When Adam came up on stage after the opening bands, he only carried one thing: his Macbook Pro. The crowd was so into him at one point that I actually saw one girl start CRYING. It was absolute chaos by the end of the night that when Owl City came back to do the encore performance of “Fireflies.” I nearly got ran over!
So make sure to listen to the rest of the album on Owl City’s website at myspace.com/owlcitymusic. P.S. Adam Young, if you ever read this, be my Valentine.
